How can Turmeric help knee arthritis?
Curcumin, the main ingredient in Turmeric has been shown to reduce joint pain, improve knee function, and be equally as beneficial as ibuprofen and another anti-inflammatory called diclofenac.
Although curcumin can help with reducing knee discomfort and support healthy cartilage function, it can be challenging to get the right amount of curcumin per day to achieve a therapeutic benefit. If you have taken a Turmeric supplement and did not feel an improvement, then it’s likely you were not taking enough curcumin.
We’ll cover exactly how Turmeric Extract can help your knees and how to get enough curcumin to improve joint function and minimize long-term knee damage.
Why should you take Turmeric Extract for stiff and sore knees?
Stiffness in the knees, limited range of motion, or pain are signs of excessive strain on your knee joint. While physical therapy, weight loss, exercise, and stretching can help, you may be fighting an uphill battle if you have chronic inflammation in your body.
Chronic inflammation can increase excessive wear and tear in your cartilage leading to the progression of knee arthritis. Cartilage can’t be grown back so once you lose it, it’s gone forever.
You may not realize you have chronic inflammation in your body until it is too late. If you have swelling in your joints for more than 3 months, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, autoimmune conditions, low energy, memory difficulties, and fatigue easily, then you may have chronic inflammation. Instead of waiting until your knees get worse, it's smarter to add a curcumin supplement to your daily routine.
Curcumin - found in the highest concentrations in Turmeric Extract - can promote a healthy inflammation in your body and provide the support you want for long-term knee health.
A 2019 study with 139 participants showed that taking 1500 mg of Turmeric Extract for 28 days reduced knee pain and increased function. These improvements were comparable to people who took diclofenac, a prescription anti-inflammatory.
The people who took turmeric extract also experienced greater weight loss and fewer side effects such as less gas (flatulence) compared to the people who took diclofenac.
Another 2019 with 150 participants showed that curcumin reduced knee pain over a 90-day period and reduced the participant's reliance on prescription anti-inflammatories.
Another 2016 study showed that curcumin taken with glucosamine and chondroitin reduced inflammatory markers and lowered pain levels in people with knee osteoarthritis.
Curcumin is also shown to help with dementia, memory, diabetes, cancer, digestive issues, high blood pressure, cholesterol, and nearly all health issues associated with chronic inflammation.
If you want to explore more studies, you could search a well-respected database like PubMed for additional peer-reviewed medical literature about turmeric.
To save you time with research, we summarized most of the health benefits of Turmeric Extract in this article:
How much Turmeric Extract should you take?
According to most studies, you should take between 500-2000 mg of curcumin per day. If you take a lower dose you may not get the research-proven benefits shown in the studies so you should take a premium Turmeric Extract like Active Atoms.
Turmeric extract contains a higher concentration of curcumin compared to Turmeric Powder. Turmeric Extract contains 95% curcuminoids and Turmeric Powder contains only 3-5% curcuminoids.
Many companies fill their capsules mostly with Turmeric Powder because it’s less expensive and they can make more money. Do not be misled when they advertise “high potency turmeric.” If they don’t have at least 500 mg of Turmeric Extract per capsule then their supplement is not high potency when compared to Active Atoms.
Some companies only put 50 mg of Turmeric Extract per capsule. Active Atoms contains 750 mg of Turmeric Extract per capsule making it what we believe is the highest potency Turmeric available. You only need to take one capsule to get the recommended daily dose of Turmeric Extract to promote joint health instead of 15 capsules from other brands. Our customers usually take two capsules of Active Atoms for two months to aggressively target inflammation then taper to one capsule per day for maintenance.
If you want to alleviate joint pain and reduce your risk of getting arthritis then consider cutting out foods that trigger inflammation, build muscles around the knee to reduce strain on it, and seek the advice of a physical therapist if you have a knee injury.
Once you are clear by your doctor to take curcumin, add Active Atoms premium Turmeric Extract to your daily routine so you can get an optimal dose of curcumin to support healthy joints and promote a better inflammation response in your body.
